Chief Financial Officer - Single Family Office


A well-established Single Family Office in Midtown Manhattan is seeking a Chief Financial Officer to lead its finance and accounting functions. Reporting to the Chief Investment Officer, the CFO will oversee accounting, financial reporting, tax strategy and compliance, cash management, and financial operations across a complex portfolio of family-controlled entities, including individuals, trusts, foundations, and investment vehicles.


This is a hands-on leadership role for an experienced finance professional who combines technical accounting expertise, significant tax knowledge, investment experience, and a high level of discretion and integrity.


Responsibilities:


  • Lead day-to-day Finance & Accounting operations and manage a small finance team.
  • Oversee accurate and timely financial reporting, investment P&L, balance sheets, net worth reporting, and cash-flow analysis.
  • Lead tax planning and oversight for the family and related entities, including federal and state obligations, estimated payments, PTET, charitable giving, and tax-efficient realization strategies.
  • Serve as primary liaison with outside tax preparers; review tax returns and ensure timely filings and payments.
  • Oversee accounting and reporting for public and private equity, credit, and investments managed by third-party investment managers.
  • Partner with investment professionals on operational due diligence and risk management.
  • Manage relationships with banks, custodians, investment managers, attorneys, accountants, administrators, and technology providers.
  • Oversee bill pay, cash management, banking controls, wires, ACH, and investment account security.
  • Support estate planning initiatives in partnership with external legal and tax advisors.
  • Prepare budgets, forecasts, ad hoc financial analyses, and management reports.
  • Oversee charitable giving, foundation obligations, and related financial reporting.
  • Drive technology, process improvement, internal controls, and best practices across the Family Office.
  • Ensure accurate maintenance of books, records, and financial documentation.
  • Recruit, supervise, mentor, and develop Finance & Accounting staff.
  • Maintain the highest standards of confidentiality, ethics, accuracy, and client service.


Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree with significant accounting and finance experience; CPA strongly preferred.
  • Extensive experience in accounting, financial reporting, and tax planning/oversight; Single Family Office experience highly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of investment accounting and financial reporting across multiple entity types and investment structures.
  • Experience with public/private investments, outside investment managers, trusts, foundations, and complex family-owned entities preferred.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and analytical skills.
  • Strong judgment and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex financial and tax matters clearly.
  • Experience managing accounting/portfolio systems and third-party vendors.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team management capabilities.
  • High degree of discretion, integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Hands-on, proactive approach with a willingness to take ownership of both strategic and day-to-day responsibilities.
