Senior Accountant
Our client is a well-established nonprofit organization is seeking a Senior Accountant who will support day-to-day accounting functions and help ensure the accuracy and integrity of the organization’s financial records. This role plays a key part in the monthly close process, grant and revenue accounting, internal reporting, and audit preparation. The ideal candidate has strong nonprofit accounting experience, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to process improvement.
Responsibilities:
- Perform monthly and year-end close activities, including journal entries and reconciliations
- Maintain accurate general ledger records, including allocations, accruals, and fixed assets
- Prepare and reconcile grant and donation revenue entries; support compliance with grant requirements
- Complete monthly bank reconciliations and monitor cash activity
- Assist with internal financial reporting and variance analysis
- Support the budgeting process and prepare budget-to-actual reports
- Maintain audit-ready documentation and assist with audit preparation and inquiries
- Recommend improvements to financial processes and internal controls
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure proper coding and reporting
- Assist with special projects and system enhancements as needed
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- 4–6 years of professional accounting experience, preferably in the nonprofit sector
- CPA a plus
- Solid understanding of GAAP and fund accounting
- Experience with grant accounting and donor-restricted revenue
- Strong Excel skills; familiarity with FundEZ, Bill.com, or similar nonprofit systems a plus
- Highly detail-oriented with strong organizational and documentation skills
- Ability to meet recurring deadlines independently and accurately
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across departments
