Controller - Not for Profit
The Controller will oversee all accounting operations and ensure accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP standards, particularly for nonprofit entities and tax credit-financed housing. This individual will implement and monitor internal controls, manage financial operations, and support leadership with strategic financial analysis and reporting.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger management
- Manage monthly and year-end close processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting
- Monitor cash flow and support financial planning and forecasting
- Prepare internal financial statements and assist with annual audits and other compliance reviews
- Lead budget development and conduct variance analysis for programs and departments
- Oversee financial reporting for grants and contracts; ensure compliance with funder requirements
- Supervise finance team members and support continuous improvement of accounting systems and processes
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support organizational goals and financial transparency
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field required; CPA and/or MBA strongly preferred
- 8+ years of nonprofit accounting experience
- Strong understanding of GAAP, nonprofit financials, and internal controls
- Prior experience with audits, budgeting, and grant/contract reporting
- Strong managerial and supervisory skills
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams and improve financial processes
- Strong Excel skills; experience with accounting systems (e.g., FundEZ, Bill.com, ADP) a plus
- High integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality in financial matters
