Project Executive – Heavy Civil / Excavation
Our client is seeking an experienced Project Executive to lead a portfolio of heavy civil and excavation projects from preconstruction through closeout. This executive-level role is responsible for overall project performance, financial results, client satisfaction, risk management, and developing high-performing project teams.
Responsibilities:
- Provide executive oversight of multiple heavy civil/excavation projects, ensuring safety, quality, schedule, and profitability.
- Lead, mentor, and develop Senior Project Managers, Project Managers, and project teams.
- Own portfolio financial performance, including forecasting, budgets, WIP, cost-to-complete, cash flow, and change order management.
- Identify and mitigate commercial, contractual, operational, and schedule risks.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with owners, clients, engineers, subcontractors, and key stakeholders.
- Support preconstruction efforts, project planning, contract reviews, staffing, and project startup.
- Drive consistency in project controls, reporting, and execution across the portfolio.
- Partner with field leadership to optimize staffing, production, safety, and project delivery.
- Lead resolution of major project issues, claims, and complex client matters.
- Champion continuous improvement, accountability, and operational excellence.
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of progressive experience in heavy civil, excavation, or infrastructure construction.
- Demonstrated experience managing civil road construction projects for a heavy civil contractor.
- Previous experience as a Project Executive, Senior Project Manager, or similar leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of construction contracts, scheduling, estimating, project controls, and financial management.
- Proven ability to lead and mentor high-performing teams.
- Excellent client management, negotiation, communication, and leadership skills.
- Strong understanding of construction safety standards and industry best practices.
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred.
