Controller – Real Estate Developer


A boutique New York City based real estate development firm is seeking a Controller to oversee accounting and financial reporting across its growing portfolio of residential development projects in Brooklyn.


Responsibilities:


  • Oversee all accounting operations across development projects and corporate entities
  • Ensure financial reporting is prepared in accordance with GAAP
  • Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes
  • Maintain the general ledger, chart of accounts, and accounting policies
  • Oversee accounting for ground-up development projects, including construction draws and capital tracking
  • Monitor development budgets, job cost reports, and variance analysis
  • Track project-level cash flow and ensure accurate capitalization of development costs
  • Prepare financial packages and compliance reporting for construction lenders and capital partners
  • Manage construction loan draw submissions and supporting documentation
  • Assist with investor reporting, capital account tracking, and distribution calculations
  • Assist ownership with project financial analysis and development feasibility
  • Monitor project performance versus pro forma assumptions
  • Support cash flow forecasting across active development projects
  • Implement and improve accounting systems, controls, and reporting processes
  • Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and legal counsel


Qualifications:


  • 5+ years of accounting experience within real estate development, construction, or property management
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and real estate accounting principles
  • Experience with development accounting, job costing, and construction loan draws
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks and Excel
  • Comfortable working in a hands-on, entrepreneurial company environment
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
