Assistant Controller / Controller

Well established and growing General Contractor is seeking an Assistant Controller / Controller with a background in construction accounting. The ideal candidate will have prior experience working with a General Contractor and will be well-versed in Sage accounting software. This individual will play a critical role in overseeing day-to-day financial operations, job cost tracking, and reporting, while supporting the leadership team with strategic financial insights.

Responsibilities:

• Manage general ledger, month-end and year-end close processes
• Oversee job costing, WIP schedules, and project billing
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal financial controls
• Coordinate with project managers to ensure financial accuracy and accountability
• Prepare and review financial reports, forecasts, and budgets
• Liaise with external auditors, banks, and insurance providers as needed
• Maintain and optimize the use of Sage accounting software
• Support the VP of Finance and executive team with ad-hoc reporting and analysis

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 5+ years of accounting experience, with at least 2+ years working with a General Contractor
• Prior experience with Sage 300 / Timberline software
• Strong understanding of construction job cost accounting
• Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and communication skills
