Machinist / Toolmaker
Our client is seeking a skilled Machinist/Toolmaker to support its operations by repairing precision tooling and manufacturing custom components for STAR Swiss-style CNC lathes. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical aptitude, experience working to extremely tight tolerances, and the ability to read and interpret complex technical drawings.
Responsibilities:
- Diagnose, repair, and rebuild live tool holders and accessories for machines.
- Disassemble, clean, evaluate, source replacement parts, and reassemble components with extreme precision (tolerances of 1–5 microns).
- Utilize standard machine shop equipment including manual lathes, milling machines, surface grinders, saws, hones, and various hand tools.
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and schematics to fabricate or modify parts.
- Design and produce custom tooling for use in production environments.
- Take precise measurements and mark materials for machining or shaping.
- Select appropriate tools, speeds, and feeds for each machining operation.
- Machine various metal alloys and plastics to tight tolerances.
- Follow all safety protocols to ensure a clean and secure work environment.
- Retrofit or modify existing components as needed.
- Perform routine maintenance on equipment, including lathes, mills, grinders, and air compressors.
- Inspect finished parts for defects and ensure all components meet design specifications.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Machinist or Toolmaker in a precision manufacturing environment.
- Ability to work from blueprints, schematics, and verbal instructions.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality work.
- Proficient in the use of measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, indicators, etc.).
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes in industries such as aerospace, automotive, or precision tooling is preferred.
