Accounting Manager / Controller


Lead financial operations and oversight for multiple corporate entities within a residential homebuilding organization. Responsible for financial integrity, reporting, cash management, and cross-functional support across accounting, HR, and operations.


Responsibilities:


  • Oversee all financial functions including reporting, budgeting, cash flow management, and financial analysis
  • Lead month-end close, including bank reconciliations, cash application, and supporting schedules
  • Manage accounts payable processes, including invoice coding, approvals, disbursements, and third-party vendors
  • Coordinate with external accountants on monthly reporting and year-end tax compliance; ensure timely filing and payment of all tax obligations
  • Oversee lot acquisitions, including coordination with developers and review of title policies
  • Review closing escrows and ALTA settlement statements for accuracy
  • Administer corporate insurance programs to ensure adequate coverage
  • Manage payroll processing and related compliance
  • Support HR administration, including onboarding/offboarding, compensation changes, benefits, PTO, and 401(k) coordination
  • Prepare and deliver quarterly reporting packages to lenders
  • Manage treasury functions, including banking relationships, Positive Pay, and remote deposits
  • Maintain integrity of the general ledger and cost coding structure
  • Provide ad hoc financial reporting and insights to executive leadership


Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred)
  • 7-10+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, preferably within homebuilding, real estate, or construction
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls
  • Experience managing full-cycle accounting and month-end close processes
  • Familiarity with job costing, cost codes, and construction or development accounting
  • Experience working with external auditors and tax advisors
  • Proficiency in accounting systems and advanced Excel skills
  • Strong understanding of payroll, benefits administration, and HR support functions
  • Excellent organizational skills with high attention to detail
  • Ability to operate in a hands-on, fast-paced environment and interact effectively with executive leadership
